"Now I have the time to work on the business, as compared to always in the business. It's strategic and it feels really amazing."
Wendy Votroubek
Founded in 2010, Integrity Legal Nurse Consulting PDX overcame founder dependency and operational complexity through a 40 Strategy engagement. Strategic Capacity increased from 37% to 83%, delivering a 7.6x ROI.
The engagement's organizing premise was that most strategic plans fail because priorities are unclear. Using the CAPTAIN Strategy Framework™, 40 Strategy identified what was blocking progress, established what to fix first, and quantified the value of each decision — converting insight into action so that strategy became operational rather than abstract. Six areas anchored the work: senior leadership effectiveness, customer satisfaction, strategic culture, scalable sales and marketing processes, financial reporting and visibility, and recurring revenue structures.
Five outcomes followed. Strategic clarity replaced reactive decision-making as abstract ambitions became practical weekly actions, reducing overwhelm and raising confidence. Operational focus came from breaking large goals into manageable weekly deliverables, which made work that had felt "big and scary" achievable while redistributing load off the CEO and freeing leadership capacity for higher-value work. Leadership effectiveness improved as team members understood their roles and how their work connected to business outcomes, with weekly collaboration strengthening trust, communication, and follow-through, and decisions becoming more grounded in data than instinct.
Better measurement and reporting also produced a clearer financial narrative — the business can now explain how it makes money, how decisions are evaluated, and how performance is tracked, which matters materially to future buyers, lenders, and partners. Underneath all of it sat a cultural shift toward execution: showing up prepared, completing deliverables, and holding honest discussions became the operating rhythm rather than the exception.
The opportunity ahead is not new strategy but sustained execution — continued focus on recurring revenue, process discipline, and operational consistency to strengthen scalability and long-term transferability.
